What to weigh before hiring
Roof condition first
If the roof has less than about ten years of life left, replacing it before installation avoids paying twice to remove and refit the array later.
Ownership model
Buying, financing, leasing and power purchase agreements all behave very differently at resale and over time. Ask who owns the equipment, who claims incentives, and what transfers if you sell the home.
Savings assumptions
Ask for the production estimate in kilowatt-hours, the escalation rate assumed for utility prices, and how net metering works with your specific utility. Treat guaranteed savings language with care.

- Shading and orientation both reduce production. A site assessment should model your specific roof rather than quote generic output.
- Do I need a battery?
- A battery adds backup during outages and can help where net metering is limited. Without those factors, it mainly adds cost.
